I found a pair of these in a junk yard with one of the famous “superdome” tweeters blown and the other pretty hoary. There is one guy in the world (Chris Coates) based in Nova Scotia who has the original tooling gear and can repair them.
Long story but in the end I bit the bullet and sent both tweeters all the way from Auckland NZ. It cost me around $700 NZ with the the repair bill plus the postage and Canadian tax - more than I expected (about $450 US) but hey! I got the rest of the cabs free and restored a piece of audio history ;)
But seriously, these are lovely speakers. The airiness of the super domes and deep base (for a front ported unit) response is fabulous. Maybe a bit less rounded in the midrange but I mostly listen to vinyl with tubes (Onyx H34 so around 45 push-pull tube watts per channel) which seems to suit them well. They’re not very efficient though so do like some watts shoved up them.
Only other criticism is they can be a bit forward and bright, the latter of which the covers help mitigate. But overall any minor quibbles are readily forgiven once you crank these babies up - let’s just say that I won’t be parting with them in a hurry!
